Position: CROP & LIVESTOCK OFFICER

About the Role
The Crop and Livestock Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and
implementing crop and livestock development interventions under the RECLAIM project. The
officer will promote climate
• smart, integrated, and sustainable farming practices that
enhance food security, nutrition, and household resilience. S/HE will closely collaborate with
District Agritex Extension, consortium partners, local authorities, and communities, with a
focus on empowering women, youth, and other vulnerable groups.

Key Responsibilities:
What You’ll Be Doing
The Crop & Livestock Officer role entails:
1. Program Implementation
• Lead implementation of crop and livestock activities of the RECLAIM Project including
climate
• smart agriculture technologies, participatory variety selection, soil fertility
management, and conservation practices.
• Support training and mentoring farmers in sustainable crop production, pest and
disease management, and value addition of traditional grains.
• Facilitate adoption of integrated crop
• livestock systems, including mobile kraaling,
fodder production, and rangeland management.
• Promote diversified household food systems (gardens, small livestock, aquaculture).
• Establish and support demonstration sites/plots showcasing CSA practices and
technologies.
• Provide training on livestock health, breeding, and nutrition.
• Promote value addition of goat and cattle products and link farmers to markets.
• Assist in community
• led rangeland restoration and pasture improvement.
2. Capacity Building & Technical Support
• Provide technical support on climate
• smart crop production, focusing on drought
tolerance and nutrient
• dense crops.
• Facilitate on
• farm trials (PVS) and demonstrations of improved seed varieties.
• Promote soil fertility management through participatory soil mapping and sustainable

practices.
• Strengthen farmer
• managed demonstration plots and Farmer Field Business Schools.
• Provide technical backstopping on crops, livestock, and agro
• ecological interventions.
• Support establishment and strengthening of farmer
• based organizations and producer
groups.
• Facilitate capacity strengthening to extension staff, lead farmers, and farmer groups in
integrated farming practices.
• Cascade training to community groups using participatory and experiential learning
approaches.
3. Coordination and Partnerships
• Coordinate with Agritex, Veterinary Services, Rural District Councils, and other partners
in delivering crops and livestock services.
• Liaise with consortium partners to harmonize approaches, tools, and learning platforms.
4. Monitoring, Learning and Reporting
• Track adoption of CSA practices and their impact on household food security and
nutrition.
• Document lessons learned, success stories, and case studies for adaptive management.
• Prepare periodic activity reports and contribute to project progress reports.

Requirements

Applicants should have
• A degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Animal Science, Agronomy, or related field.
• At least 3–5 years of practical Experience in crop and livestock production, preferably in
development or resilience
• building projects.
• Strong knowledge of Climate
• Smart Agriculture, conservation farming, and integrated
crop
• livestock systems.
• Experience in training, community mobilization, and participatory approaches.
• Familiarity with value chain development, natural resource management, and nutritionsensitive agriculture.
• Strong coordination and partnership management Skills.
• Excellent report writing and communication Skills (English and local languages).
